80-Point Tournament Rules

The Prize
1. There will be three cash prizes awarded for the tournament (first, second and third place). The total amount awarded as prizes is determined by the total number of entries, the amount paid for entry, and the percentage of the entry which goes towards prize money. First place prize money equals 50% of the total prize money. Second place prize money equals 30% of the total prize money. Third place prize money equals 20% of the total prize money. The percentage of entry fees to be distributed as prize money is the percentage announced and/or published prior to the beginning of the tournament.

2. Tournaments may or may not consist of multiple divisions. In the event that the tournament consists of more than one division (i.e.: target vs bowhunter, or fingers vs releases) the total prize money will be divided equally between all divisions.

The Games of the 80 Point Tournament
The only one-dimensional targets used in the 80-Point round will be official Schaefer Shooting Games™ Targets. Other targets may be used in tie breaking rounds at the discretion of the tournament manager.

The Rules
1. Specific rules for each game will be available to all contestants at the event. These rules may be exactly the same as those printed on each target, or may be any variation of these rules as determined by the contest management.

2. Winners will be determined by the skill and accuracy of their shots and their ability to satisfactorily accomplish the tasks set forth in the rules.

3. Spotters, using binoculars or spotting scopes, will be provided or may be selected from contestants when not on the firing line. Spotters will advise shooters and observers of the location of each shot in the event it is not clearly visible to shooters and observers. Binoculars or spotting scopes required for this task can be supplied by the range, but observers are encouraged to bring binoculars or shooting scopes, as well.

Important Note 1: During each shooting round it is each shooter's responsibility -- and only that shooter's responsibility -- to determine the exact position of each arrow before shooting the next arrow. Spotters are provided only to assist shooters in spotting hits, but spotters and tournament management are not responsible for errors in judgment regarding arrow positions in targets during a round of play.

At the end of each game the contestant and a judge, or at the discretion of the tournament manager the contestant and another contestant or observer shall approach the target and score the game based upon the position of the arrows in the target. There will be no allowance made for errors in determining the position of any arrow during the game play. Once an arrow is shot, no previous arrow position in that game can be challenged.

In the event that it is impossible for a shooter to determine to his own satisfaction the position of the last arrow placed in a target, that shooter may suspend his/her shooting, advise a judge of the situation and the shooter may then wait for the end of the current round, at which time the shooter and a judge shall examine the target close up and make a determination of the arrow position. The shooter may then continue the same game in the next round, but all arrows already in the target shall remain exactly as they were when the previous round ended. Important: neither the shooter nor the judge may touch an arrow being so examined between rounds. If the arrow is touched by the shooter, that game shall be scored a 0. If the arrow is touched by the judge the shooter shall have the option of shooting it over, or taking as a score the position determined by the judge.

4. Each contestant shall complete eight different target games, each having a maximum possible score of ten (10) points. 80 points is a perfect score. A half-tournament consists of any 4 different games and a perfect score will be 40 points.

5. Games cannot end in a tie. Should the round result in a tie, each tied contestant shall participate in a tie breaker round in whatever form is determined to be appropriate by the tournament manager.

6. A three minute warm up period shall be provided before each game, but players shall not shoot at the specific target type to be used in the game which is about to begin. A warm up period may be provided prior to the start of the tournament. During this period any official Schaefer Shooting games target can be used.

The Play
1. A minimum of eight Schaefer Shooting Game Targets will be hung. Multiple sets of eight may be hung. For a half-tournament, 4 Games Targets are hung. Multiple sets may be hung.

2. If necessary in the opinion of the judges, targets will be patched or replaced at any time during play.

3. Contestants may use binoculars or spotting scopes during their round to insure that they know the position of each arrow before shooting the next arrow. Spotters will be provided only to advise shooters of the position of hits which may not be readily seen by the shooter or observers with a naked eye. (See Important Note 1)

4. Scores will be recorded only on official score sheets by placing an X on, or circle around, the correct score.

5. The score for each game MUST be initialed by both the shooter and a judge or authorized observer or second. Initials of the contestant certify their acceptance of the score as being accurate.

6. In the event of a dispute about arrow position, score or equipment, the tournament managers judgment shall be final.

7. Only those presently shooting and judges or seconds will be allowed forward of the observer line.

8. Shooters must be standing by, ready to shoot when called upon to do so. Any shooter not on the shooting line within three minutes of their name being called forfeits the game.

9. Shooters may NOT make any equipment adjustments or changes after the first arrow has been shot in any individual game. Shooters may make whatever adjustments or changes they wish before or between games. In the case of equipment breakage which occurs during a game, after the first arrow has been shot, the contestant will be given five minutes to effect a repair. If at the end of this period the shooter is unable to continue, the game shall be scored based upon arrows shot.

10. Distances from the shooting line to the target may vary from game to game, but all contestants will shoot the same game from the same distance.

11. SCORING HITS ON LINES: All arrows which touch more than one possible scoring area shall be deemed to be in the scoring area touched to the right of the arrow or above the arrow, or both. Arrows which fall directly on a line between scoring areas without touching a scoring area shall be deemed to have missed the target entirely and shall be so scored.

The Judges
One or more judges will be assigned by the event management.

Equipment
At the discretion of the tournament manager a distinction may or may not be made between hunting and target equipment, with varying rules for each.

Hunting equipment shall be considered to be a bow typically used for hunting having no sights or equipped with open or metal sights, or glass or plastic sights having zero magnification, and stabilizers no more than 12 inches long.

Target equipment shall be considered to be any bow having open or metal sights, or glass or plastic sights having 1.5X or greater magnification and having a stabilizers more then 12 inches long or more than one single stabilizer tube or bar.

No distinction shall be made between shooting with fingers or a release. Because of the difficulty associated with listing here every element of equipment which could make it either hunting or target equipment, each bow will be determined in advance by the tournament manager to belong in one of these categories and the contestant shall accept this ruling or may withdraw from the tournament prior to shooting his/her first arrow. Once their first arrow has been shot the contestant cannot challenge the determination of equipment type.

Miscellaneous
Tournament management shall determine any other requirements, rules or restrictions which in their opinion are required to insure safety or the successful operation of the tournament. In all matters the decision of the tournament manager shall be binding on all participants.
